چکیده

Oxy-fuel combustion is a clean coal technology based on firing fuel in an enriched oxygen atmosphere to obtain a high CO2 concentration in the off-gases. This technology can be combined with the co-firing biomass and the use of blends of coal and biomass can compensate for the fact that the gas properties in the furnace in an oxycombustion process differ from the air-firing case (oxy-firing flue gases have a higher heat capacity and emissivity than for the air-firing case). As a consequence, the use of biomass fuels, albeit that they have a lower heating value than coal could reduce such effects. In this paper the latest experimental results using a retrofitted 100 kWth oxyfuel combustor at Cranfield University are presented. In addition, this experimental data is used to validate a newly developed Aspen Plus simulation a model for oxy-fuel firing.

Investigation into the Co-combustion Behaviour and Heat Release Rate of Coal/biomass Blends Using Thermogravimetric Analysis

Combustion behaviour of coal and biomass are different due to difference in their physical and chemical properties. Thermogravimetric analysis is a useful technique to determine combustion characteristics of coal/biomass blends. This study elaborates the lab scale findings of co-combustion experiments in Thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) [in which Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC) and The...

Studies on the Co-combustion Behaviour of Coal/biomass Blends Using Thermogravimetric Analysis

In relation to future energy demand and fossil fuel crisis particularly in India, biomass is gaining its importance for possible utilization as co-fuel. This study focuses the use of „low temperature biomass char‟ instead of raw biomass in the blends to extract some specific advantages like lowering of grinding energy, intensification of heat energy, proper adjustment of „VM and fuel ratio‟ etc...

Effect of oxy-fuel combustion with steam and biomass addition on coal burnout in an entrained flow reactor

The coal burnout of a semi-anthracite was studied under oxy-firing conditions in an entrained flow reactor. The results obtained under oxy-fuel conditions were compared with those attained in air. The replacement of CO2 by 10 and 20% of steam in the oxyfuel combustion atmospheres was also evaluated in order to study the wet recirculation of flue gas. The results showed a decrease on coal burnou...

Oxy - fuel combustion of coal and biomass blends

The ignition temperature, burnout and NO emissions of blends of a semi-anthracite and a high-volatile bituminous coal with 10 and 20 wt.% of olive waste were studied under oxy-fuel combustion conditions in an entrained flow reactor (EFR). The results obtained under several oxy-fuel atmospheres (21%O2-79%CO2, 30%O2-70% CO2 and 35%O265%CO2) were compared with those attained in air. The results in...

Energy Analysis of a Biomass Co-firing Based Pulverized Coal Power Generation System

The results are reported of an energy analysis of a biomass/coal co-firing based power generation system, carried out to investigate the impacts of biomass co-firing on system performance. The power generation system is a typical pulverized coal-fired steam cycle unit, in which four biomass fuels (rice husk, pine sawdust, chicken litter, and refuse derived fuel) and two coals (bituminous coal a...
